Impact stories Mary's Story ‘It has been amazing to be feel so included in the team’ Mary has been a volunteer at VITAL for two years. ‘I can honestly say that both through the involvement in the service, and the support given by the organisation, VITAL has had a massively positive impact on my life’. She volunteered with the advocacy support team, but regularly volunteers in the office, covering for staff on reception. ‘This has been so enjoyable for so many reasons; engaging with service users who are sometimes in crisis, signposting service users to other supportive services, and supporting the team with other daily admin responsibilities.’ ‘It has been amazing to be feel so included in the team, valued, and supported both emotionally and through the excellent training that the organisation offers. My confidence and self- worth has increased so much, thanks to VITAL.’ The benefits to Mary have been incredible but the impact she has on organisation has been invaluable too. ‘Having Mary around has been awesome. She brings a lovely vibe and new perspective, as well as an air of enthusiasm and commitment which I think staff have really valued.’ Katy Tate, Deputy Director. Volunteer Coordinator Rebecca Appleyard agrees. ‘Mary is committed and bubbly and has provided excellent support to VITAL. She is a pleasure to have in the office’. Skills based volunteering enables individuals the opportunity to regain and learn new skills to support them if they choose to head back to employment. We recognise that confidence can be impacted following an illness and help support individuals in a comfortable and supported environment to find their feet again.
